About Us

Our mission is to honor George Washington through the association of lineal descendants of the Washington family. Our society was first organized in 1954, and, over these years, our members have enjoyed the mutual education and fellowship opportunities offered during our wonderful annual reunions. These reunions occur each Fall, and are carefully planned to provide a blend of specially curated tours and talks with opportunities for social interaction among our attendees. We meet in cities or areas that are related to the various branches of the Washington family, emphasizing our shared ancestor General George Washington. Though our members are scattered all over the United States, each member qualifies for membership through one of 7 recognized family lineal ancestors of General George Washington.

If you ask our members why they joined NSWFD, you would hear many reasons, among them would be the desire to preserve and learn more about their genealogical heritage; and to have opportunities to meet others with the same interests.

Learning about your ancestors - how they lived, the challenges they faced and how they overcame hard times and difficult circumstances instructs us and gives us greater understanding and compassion for their lives. We have a responsibility to pass this knowledge and the lessons learned to our future generations.

We receive dues from our members and donations from non-members, and provide grants to selected organizations that are related to and share our goals to preserve our shared history.
